Your survey isn't set in stone. You can reword, retype, and reorganize questions at any time, and Invytly makes sure your guests' answers always stay consistent with what you ask.

Edit a question

  1. Open the Questions page. In your project, go to Questions. You'll see your sections (events and general sections), each with its own list of questions. Only Admins can edit questions.
  2. Click the question you want to change. The question opens in an editing dialog.
  3. Make your changes. You can rewrite the question text, switch the question type (free text, single choice, multiple choice, yes/no, and more), add or remove answer options, offer an "Other" option so guests can write their own answer, and set whether the question is mandatory.
  4. Save. If any guest has already replied and your change affects them, Invytly shows a confirmation first (more on that below). Otherwise the change is saved right away.

From the same page you can also reorder questions by dragging them and delete a question with the trash icon.

What happens to answers you've already received?

It depends on how big the change is. Invytly separates harmless edits from edits that would make existing answers unreliable.

Always safe: nothing changes for guests

  • Rewording the question text
  • Making a question mandatory or optional
  • Adding a new answer option to a choice question
  • Turning the "Other" option on
  • Reordering questions

All answers stay saved, and guests who completed the survey stay marked as replied.

Changes that ask affected guests to reply again

  • Changing the question type
  • Removing or renaming an answer option (renaming counts as removing the old option)
  • Turning the "Other" option off

The old answers to that question wouldn't match the new question, so they have to go. If some guests in the section have already replied, Invytly first asks you to confirm in a Guests have already answered dialog, so nothing is lost by accident. If you continue, the answers to that question are deleted and the guests who can see it are marked as not answered again.

Invytly doesn't contact those guests for you: ask them to answer again (for example with a reminder), or fill in the answer on their behalf with the pencil next to their name in the dashboard report table. Everything else they answered is kept and pre-filled; they only need to answer the changed question.

Adding and deleting questions

Adding a question. If some guests in the section have already completed the survey, you'll see a Guests have already answered dialog before saving. If you continue, the guests who will see the new question are marked as not answered again, so you'll need to ask them to complete the survey or fill in the answer on their behalf. Their existing answers are kept; they only need to answer the new question.

Deleting a question. Its answers are deleted with it. Guests are not asked to reply again; everything else they answered is still valid.

Only the right guests are asked again

Invytly never bothers a guest about a question they can't see. Each section is sent only to the guests you invited to it, and a guest who answered "not attending" to an event skips that event's other questions entirely.

So if you add or change a question in an event's section, guests who declined that event are left in peace; their reply stays complete. The same goes for general questions: guests who declined every event they were invited to won't be asked again for those either.

Tip: the safest moment to reshape your survey is before sending invitations. After guests start replying, prefer rewording over retyping, and when Invytly shows the confirmation dialog, read it twice: continuing deletes the existing answers to that question.
